We believe in a system that puts victims first and is capable of consistently handing down appropriate sentences to criminals, particularly repeat criminals. The Government’s failure to provide guidelines to the judiciary, regarding standard sentence lengths, has created a lottery-style justice system, in which there is no consistency between judges, with some tending towards exceptionally light sentences and some tending towards punitive sentences.

We will put in place policies designed to standardise sentences, to punish offenders whilst protecting victims, and ensure that it is not possible for any individual to pick up 40, 80, or 100 convictions whilst still being free to walk the streets, we will review prison, bail, and parole conditions in order to determine if they fit societies’ needs, and reforming them if they do not, and we will expand the abilities of the Gardai, making it easier for them to investigate and stop hardened criminals quickly and efficiently.
